AMES, Iowa – Oct.13, 2011 – Live Healthy Iowa Kids’ Fall Fitness Day awarded cash prizes to seven Iowa schools to go toward their physical education programs for their participation in the event. Fall Fitness Day had 56,466 youth participate, totaling 178 schools. The randomly chosen schools that have been awarded cash prizes are:

  • $250 gift card to Scheels Sporting Goods – New Albin Elementary, New Albin
  • $250 gift card to Scheels Sporting Goods – Sibley-Ocheyedan Elementary, Sibley
  • $250 gift card to Scheels Sporting Goods – Marnie Simons Elementary, Hamburg
  • $250 gift card to Hopkins Sporting Goods– Central Community, Elkader
  • $250 gift card to Hopkins Sporting Goods – Nashua-Plainfield Elementary, Nashua
  • $500 – West Cedar Elementary, Waverly
  • $1,000 – Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock, Rockford

Fall Fitness Day is a free, one-day event to get students active and educate them on the importance of physical activity. Schools plan for a minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity. Schools that report 100 percent participation of their enrollment are eligible for a random drawing for cash prizes. Since Live Healthy Iowa Kids’ inception in 2004, Live Healthy Iowa has given back more than $48,750 to participating schools’ physical education programs to award them for their dedication and commitment to health and wellness.

“Live Healthy Iowa Kids is dedicated to the health and well-being of Iowa’s youth,” said Traci Kepley, Live Healthy Iowa health initiatives coordinator. “We are happy to give back to these schools so they can improve their physical education programs with new equipment and resources.”
